UK National Forklift Safety Day 2021 | Three Safety Features Every Warehouse Operator Should Consider
In fact, we believe so strongly in some key forklift safety innovations we’ve invested very heavily in R&D to develop them then built them into our own trucks.
Our quick read blog explains the essentials…
Latest Forklift Safety Features to Review Before Buying a Forklift
When they ask us for help to safely expand their storage capacity, we often tell warehouse owners and managers about some simple but powerful forklift safety features…
1, Combine your indoor and outdoor trucks: An indoor forklift operating outside with the wrong tyres, and vice versa, is an obvious safety risk (not to mention a slow process with more time spent moving materials).
Instead, a single truck designed for any surface should be considered.
You’ll even eliminate double-handling and speed up your ‘truck to rack’ efficiency along the way.
2, Three words: view, view, view: Imagine the view the operator of a counterbalance forklift has of their load in a narrow aisle warehouse.
Combine this with high lifting, where the operator has to look through the mast, to understand how the choice of a truck with a clearer view of the load is an instant safety improvement.
We believe, and have proven in warehouses across the world, that an articulated VNA truck like this AC electric model means a superb vantage point for viewing a load in the aisle.
3, Think ‘operator’ not ‘driver’: The safest place for your forklift operator might not be in the truck at all.
We’ve developed the first purpose-built pedestrian reach-stacker with the ability to work in a Very Narrow Aisle. This is achieved through a unique patented multi-position tiller arm that places the operator in the safest possible position.
The benefit? Aside from saving almost 1 metre of aisle space, the operator can now stand at the side of the machine – and away from the potential crush hazard of the traditional tiller arm – with a superb view of both the load and their surroundings.
Forklift Safety and Your Warehouse – Your Next Steps
You might have noticed that the safety innovations we’ve championed here often come with the benefit of increased capacity or efficiency.
That’s because our products undergo extensive R&D with two things very much at the fore: safety and warehouse efficiency.
